Why?
Since the number of components in my desigs is growing, I somehow lost track of my stock of components. Additionally keeping everything in bags or ESD boxes has two downsides:
- needs a lot of space
- and you spend much time on seaching stuff
So I wanted to create a system to store everything efficiently and to sort the components by type. It is quite nice to have all the resistors sorted in ascending order of resistance. So I wanted to have something that can be rearranged when adding component values.
For printing the labels I designed labels with my Borother P-Touch Cube Plus. For the samll boxes I use 9mm tape, for the bigger ones I went for 18mm tape.
Versions and print settings
For storing my parts I use two different designs at the moment:
- passives 0402/0603 I use paul0’s small boxes (linked below)
- my designs, for bigger parts like modules, connectors and pinheaders:
- 25×31.5mm height:21mm
- 25x63mm height:21mm
- 50x63mm height:21mm
- 50x63mm height:42mm
All the boxes from my design can be connected, but to be honest this only makes sense for boxes having the same height. I arrange similar components in trays of boxes and the plan is to mount each tray on a carrier made from wood or acrylic.
